5 Considerations For Choosing A Commercial Storage Tub System

Blog

Choosing the right storage tub and bin solution for your business takes some planning. The following are a few things to consider when looking at different solutions.

1. Access Options

Storage tubs come in a variety of styles, with some being easier to open and access than others. If it's important that items be tightly sealed in the tub, and access to the tub isn't an issue, then a snap-on lid is a good option. Another option is a locking lid, which has bars that lock the lid on even more tightly. If access to items inside should be quick and easy, then consider stacking open bins, which have a scoop-style opening on one side that makes it easy to reach into the bin as needed.

2. Label Ease

Labeling the bins with their contents is a must for any storage solutions. You can find bins with erasable labeling areas that allow you to temporarily mark the tubs with a dry erase marker. For a more permanent but still changeable system, consider bins with label pockets that allow you to slide a removable label in place.

3. Stacking Methods

How will you stack the bins? If the plan is to put one atop the other, then you need storage tubs of comparable size that are designed to be stacked securely. There are also hang bins, which slot into shelving systems that allow you to pull them out like drawers. This makes it easier to access the bins without having to disassemble a stack.

4. Color Options

Storage tub color is about more than aesthetics. Color can be used to code and organize the bins in your back room, on the shop floor, or in the warehouse. Consider your color-coding needs before choosing the bins. This way, you can opt for a bin style that comes in the colors that are needed for your organizational purposes.

5. Structural Concerns

The basic structure of a bin goes beyond its shape and size. If you need bins that are easy to dust or wipe clean, opt for those with a smooth exterior or interior surface. For bins that are slid across the floor or moved around with a forklift, you may need integrated wheels, skids, or a reinforced bottom. There are many types of bins and tubs available, so you can find one with the best structure for your needs.
