If you find that there are water rings on the floor of the unit, you will want to bring it to the attention of the facility manager. Another place that you want to look for water damage is the ceiling. You will usually find that the ceiling of a storage unit is in great shape, however you do want to visually inspect the the ceiling for water damage. Once you have moved your items into the storage unit, be sure to check on the items after the first big rainstorm just to be sure your unit is keeping the water out.
You do not want to have your belongings in a storage unit that has a pest problem. When you are looking at storage units be sure to inspect for pests. First look for any type of insect, but the one to be most weary of is ants. The second thing that you want to inspect for are rodents. Look for any fecal pellets that show a rodent has been in the storage unit. You may also want to talk to the storage facility manager and find out what precautions the facility is takin when it comes to pest control.
You want your items to be stored in a storage unit that has great security. Look for a storage unit facility that has one or two entrances at most.
