Look For Water Damage

One of the most important aspects of a storage unit is that it is able to keep regular weather elements out of the storage unit. So, you are going to want to inspect the storage unit for any signs of water. The first thing to look for is water rings on the floor of the unit. If you find that there are water rings on the floor of the unit, you will want to bring it to the attention of the facility manager. Another place that you want to look for water damage is the ceiling. You will usually find that the ceiling of a storage unit is in great shape, however you do want to visually inspect the the ceiling for water damage. Once you have moved your items into the storage unit, be sure to check on the items after the first big rainstorm just to be sure your unit is keeping the water out.

Pest Control

You do not want to have your belongings in a storage unit that has a pest problem. When you are looking at storage units be sure to inspect for pests. First look for any type of insect, but the one to be most weary of is ants. The second thing that you want to inspect for are rodents. Look for any fecal pellets that show a rodent has been in the storage unit. You may also want to talk to the storage facility manager and find out what precautions the facility is takin when it comes to pest control.

Security

You want your items to be stored in a storage unit that has great security. Look for a storage unit facility that has one or two entrances at most. It is also great if the storage facility has a security camera that is able to record the activity in the storage facility. Security cameras will not only be able to record any activity, but security cameras act as great theft deterrents.
